Ruth M. Wenslow, 75, of Edison Road,
South Bend, Ind., passed away following a brief illness, at 3:45
p.m. on Wednesday, June 21, in Memorial Hospital, South Bend, IN.
She was born on March 6, 1925, to the late Mikel and Hilda (Hansen)
Mathisen in Bainbridge Island, Wash., and had lived in South Bend
most of her life, coming from Bainbridge. Mrs. Wenslow retired in
1986 from the LaSalle Liquor Company. Prior to that, she was
employed with Memorial Hospital.
On Nov. 23, 1945, as Ruth M. Mathisen,
she married Joseph Wenslow in Seattle, Wash. He died on June 27,
1987. Her son, Mikel Wenslow, and her brother, Herald Mathisen,
also preceded her in death. Mrs. Wenslow is survived by two
daughters, Bonnie Lawton of Granger, Ind., and Cheryl
(Walt) Howland of Bowie, Md.; five grandchildren, Vashnu William
Howland, Mikel Joseph Howland, Shali Ann Howland, Joseph
Roy Lawton and Neal Brian Lawton.
Mrs. Wenslow was a member of the St. Casimir
Seniors; and the Legion of Honor, Polish Falcons Nest #80. She
was an avid golfer and had played in the St. Matthew's Golf
League for several years, where she had won many distinguished
awards. Ruth had always looked forward to her trips "back
home" to Bainbridge Island. She enjoyed dancing, gardening,
and being outside in her special spot, which was the front porch
of her home. Her many special times with family and friends will
be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on
Monday, June 26, in KANIEWSKI FUNERAL HOME, with Rev. Thomas F.
Lemos, C.S.C. officiating. Cremation will follow. Friends may
call from 3 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, June 25, in the KANIEWSKI
FUNERAL HOME, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend. A Rosary will be
prayed with the St. Casimir Seniors at 4 p.m., immediately
followed by a Legion of Honor, Polish Falcons Net #80 Prayer
Service. Memorial contributions may be made to Muscular Dystrophy
Association, 314 W. Catalpa Drive, Mishawaka, IN 46545
