Donald L. Weisweaver, 52, of 115 W. Seventh St., retired Mishawaka fireman and former chief of the Osceola Fire Department, died unexpectedly at 3 a.m. Sunday in his residence.
Born in Mishawaka, he was a lifetime resident of this vicinity, though during the summer months in recent years, he had lived in Cheboygan, Mich.
He married Margaret Carey on Oct. 6, 1922, in Edwardsburg, Mich. She survives.
He retired in 1955 from the Mishawaka Fire Department after 28 years of service. He also retired in 1955 as chief of the Osceola Fire Department, which he organized and established in 1946.
He was a member of Mishawaka Aerie 2083, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Osceola American Legion Post 308, Indiana Firemans Assn., and National Fire Chiefs Assn.
Besides the widow, survivors include; two daughters, Mrs. Elmer Nickels and Mrs. Donald Wagner, both of Mishawaka; one son, Robert, of Osceola; three brothers, Lewis, John and Thomas, all of Mishawaka; and one sister, Mrs. Jesse Townsend of Wichita, Kan. There are 10 grandchildren.
Friends may call in the Warner Funeral Home in Osceola after 7 p.m. today and until 11 a.m. Wednesday, at which time the body will be taken to the Osceola Methodist Church. Friends may then call in the church from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the services at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Rev. Phill Stephens, pastor of the church, will officiate.
Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.
Members of the Mishawaka Firemans Auxiliary will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Central Fire Station and go from there in a group to the funeral home.
