MISHAWAKA - Virginia L. (Burner) Weis,
81, of Mishawaka, passed away Thursday evening, November 27,
2008, in her home. Virginia was born February 7, 1927 in South
Bend. She graduated from South Bend's Central High School and
attended Nursing School in Chicago. On January 31, 1953 she
married Leonard A. Weis and the couple made Mishawaka their home.
Virginia was employed as a Nurse in the nursery at Memorial
Hospital in South Bend and she also worked part time at St.
Joseph Hospital in Mishawaka. She played an instrumental role in
starting Hospice of St. Joseph County. Virginia was a member of
St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mishawaka and at one time sang in
the choir and belonged to the Rosary Society. She also sang with
the Sweet Adeline's. She served as a Captain with Neighborhood
Watch. Virginia enjoyed needlework which included embroidery,
cross stitch and quilting. She was an avid reader and liked word
searches. Virginia's surviving family includes her husband of
over 55 years, Leonard of Mishawaka; and a son, John (Jeanell)
Weis of South Bend. Virginia was preceded in death by two
brothers, Fred and Clarence Burner; and two sisters,
Margaret Snyder and Mildred Morris.
Friends may spend time with Virginia's family today (Sunday) from 2 to 4 pm in Thallemer, Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. Third Street, Mishawaka, where the Rosary will be prayed at 4 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10 am in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 225 S. Mill Street, Mishawaka, with Rev. Terry Fisher officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. Memorials may be given to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Envelopes are available in the funeral home.
