Dr. Weiss was board certified in internal medicine, and was awarded a fellowship in the American College of Physicians. In 1994 the Indiana Chapter of the American College of Physicians honored him with the Laureate Award in recognition of his years of dedication to his work and to his patients, and for his care of the medically indigent during his retirement.

Dr. Weiss was married to his wife, Ruth (Teichman), for 53 years until her death in 1989. He is survived by his wife, Marie (Loyce), whom he married in 1990; his sister, Mildred Fedol of Greenacre City, Fla.; his daughters, Aviva Baer of Hollywood, Fla., and Janice Weiss of Oak Park, Ill.; grandchildren, Susan and Michael Baer, Mindy and Ira Baer, Claudia and Laurance Baer, Ellen Wiewel and Daniel Wiewel; and great-granddaughters, Rachel, Melanie, Emily and Jamie Baer.
