NEW CARLISLE - Helen H. Wegner, 93, of Hamilton Community, New Carlisle, Ind., died at 6:20 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 21, in the nursing home. She was born on Feb. 4, 1905, in South Bend, Ind., and was a lifelong area resident. Mrs. Wegner was a member of the Confraternity of the Holy Rosary and the Apostleship of Prayer of St. Stanislaus B&M Catholic Church. She was married on July 21, 1924, in South Bend, as Helen H. Matela, to John Frank Wegner, who preceded her in death on April 20, 1996. She was also preceded in death by two daughters, Gloria Wegner who died in 1929, and Dolores Scherer who died in 1995; three brothers, Stanley, Joseph and Bert; and by four sisters, Joan, Katie, Verna and Mary. Mrs. Wegner is survived by three daughters, Rita Marie Smith of Alex City, Ala., Betty Jane Cutler of South Bend and Sylvia Barta of Valparaiso, Ind.; a son, Richard Wegner of South Bend; and by 21 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren.

Family and friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. on Monday in the St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Road, where a Rosary will be said at 4 p.m. Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday in St. Stanislaus B&M Catholic Church with burial to follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery.
