Jack Lee Wedmore Nov. 29, 1929 - Jan. 18, 2008
SOUTH BEND - Captain Jack Lee Wedmore, 78, of South Bend, IN,
died at 11:15 a.m. Friday, January 18, 2008, in his residence,
following an illness. He was born on November 29, 1929, to the
late Jesse and Gladys (Smith) Wedmore in South Bend, IN. Jack
lived most of his life in South Bend, with the exception of
spending a short time in California. Along with his parents; one
brother, Richard Wedmore also preceded him in death. Jack was a
graduate of St. Joseph High School in South Bend, IN. Mr. Wedmore
retired in 1992 from I.B.E.W. Local No. 153 in South Bend, where
he worked as an electrician for 35 years. He is survived by his
two daughters, Priscilla (Robert) Gerhardt of New Carlisle and
Deborah Wedmore of South Bend; three grandchildren, Cynthia
Wedmore, Tori Wedmore and Christina Schaap; six
great-grandchildren, Brayden, Chloe, Cayleb, Deven, Austin and
Jordan; and three sisters, Barbara, Patsy and Betty. Jack was a
U.S. Marine Corps Veteran of the Korean War, where he served in
the Death March in China, was wounded, and awarded a Purple Heart
Cluster II and various other medals. He was proud to serve in the
U.S. Marine Corps. He was a lifetime member of the American
Legion; and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars in California
and Fort Wayne, IN. Cremation will take place. Private Memorial
Services will be held at a later date. Memorial Contributions may
be made to VFW Foundation, 406 West 34th Street, Kansas City, MO
64111. Kaniewski Funeral Home, New Carlisle, IN is handling
arrangements.
