MISHAWAKA - Monte Wechter, 68, of Manchester Drive, died at 10:28 a.m. Thursday in Elkhart General Hospital. Mr. Wechter was the owner of Midwest Sales & Service, South Bend. He was born Aug. 4, 1926, in New York City.

On June 1, 1951, in Nyaack, N.Y., he married Betty Freeze. She survives with three sons, Trell Wechter of Granger and Steven and Larry, both of Indianapolis; eight grandchildren; and a sister, Helen Ungarten of New Jersey. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Bubb Funeral Chapel North, 3910 N. Main St. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County Inc. or American Heart Association.
