OSCEOLA - Maxine S. Weber, 87, of Osceola, passed away
peacefully at 7:29 a.m. Monday, November 10, 2008, in Saint
Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend. Maxine was born on
July 27, 1921, to William and Emily (Forbes) Stein.
She was the youngest of three children. She is survived by her
husband, Robert Weber of South Bend; one sister, Pauline Martin
of Port St. Lucie, FL; twin nieces, Eloise Myers of
Rochester, NY, and Lorraine Stickel of Juneau, AK;
grandnieces, Elizabeth Stickel, Joyce, Jackie and Jamie Myers;
and a grandnephew, Daniel Stickel. Maxine obtained a bachelor's
degree from the University of Chicago in meteorology. She
forecasted for many years at the South Bend Weather Bureau.
Maxine met her husband, Bob, at the South Bend Tennis Club. They
both shared a passion and excelled in tennis. Maxine was known
for always being upbeat and energetic. She delighted in simple
pleasures, being outdoors, boating, ice skating and fishing, to
mention a few. She was a longtime volunteer for Meals on Wheels.
She was also one of the first women to obtain a pilot's license
in the Kalamazoo Aviators Club. She was a member of a local photo
club for many years and took the photos of her niece's wedding,
capturing many special family moments. Most of all, Maxine will
be remembered for being caring and helpful to family members in
their time of need. She will be greatly missed by all.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 15, 2008, in Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 4508 Vistula Road, Mishawaka, with one hour of visitation prior to the Mass. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery, South Bend. Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola, is handling arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army, 510 S. Main St., South Bend, IN 46601; or to the donor's choice.
