SOUTH BEND - George F. Weber, 84, peacefully departed this
earth on February 13, 2008, in Round Rock, Texas. Born August 19,
1923, in Chicago, Illinois, to Joseph and Louise Weber, he was
part of the "Greatest Generation." He served
honorably in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II,
spending several months in France in 1945. He spent most of his
adult life in South Bend, Indiana.
Here he met and married Ruth and adopted her
two children, Richard and Kathie. He worked 17 years for Bendix
in the aircraft division. After retirement, he devoted much of
his life to the spiritual needs of others. He was active for many
years in the Gospel Center Church visitation program, bringing
hope and fellowship to many seniors. George was preceded in death
by his wife, Ruth; a son, Richard; a sister, Phyllis; brothers,
Jim and Joseph; and longtime friend and companion, Ella Gibson.
He is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Kathie and Michael Powers;
grandchildren, Deborah Sweet and husband, Chris, Joel Bright
and wife, Amber, Channing Weber and Kenneth Volmer; five
great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers,
please make donations to the Billy Graham Crusade or to a charity
of choice.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m.
on Monday, Feb. 18, 2008, in the Palmer Funeral Home-River Park,
2528 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend. Rev. Thomas Murphy will
officiate. Entombment will follow at Riverview Cemetery, South
Bend.
