SOUTH BEND , IN - Maisie Ruth Weaver,
96 years old, residing at 813 S. 23rd Street, South Bend, passed
away at 6:25 a.m. on Saturday, November 3, 2001, in the Rosewood
Terrace Rehabilitation Center, Elkhart. Ms. Weaver was born on
September 5, 1905, in LaGrange County, IN, to the late William
and Nettie Belle (Miller) Weaver. Maisie worked for five
years at Ball Band before opening the River Park Beauty Shop on
Mishawaka Avenue in 1927. She moved her shop into her home in
1945, continuing to operate this shop until she retired in 1970.
Maisie was preceded in death by her parents,
William and Nettie Belle Weaver; a brother, Lawrence Weaver Sr.;
sisters, Bessie (Weaver) Miller and Muryl (Weaver) Weinland.
Ms. Weaver is survived by nieces, Lois (Joe) Muray, Ann
(Chester) Donath, Judith Dallas, Gayle (Kelly) Adams,
Margaret Miller; and nephews, Dan (Barbara) Weinland and
Lawrence (Hilda) Weaver Jr. Ms. Weaver is currently survived by
approximately 120 nieces and nephews, spanning five generations.
Maisie was an avid golfer, fisherwoman and seamstress. Until
recently, she was an active member of the River Park United
Methodist Church for many years. In her later years, she enjoyed
traveling and a variety of activities, always in the company of
her longtime friend and companion, Flossie Keller. Flossie
preceded her in death in 1999.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on
Tuesday, November 6th, 2001, in the Palmer Funeral Home, 2528
Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend. Rev. Philip E. Abram, pastor of the
River Park United Methodist Church, will officiate. Graveside
services and burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka.
Friends may visit with the family from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday,
November 5th, in the Palmer Funeral Home and one hour prior to
services on Tuesday. The family would like to thank the St.
Joseph Visiting Nurses and Hospice of Elkhart County for their
kind assistance during Maisie's illness. In lieu of flowers, the
family requests donations to be made to the River Park United
Methodist Church, 920 S. 23rd Street, South Bend, IN 46615 or to
the charity of the donor's choice.
