5, 1973 - Sept. 24, 2009SOUTH BEND - John Derek Watson, 35, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 10:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, 2009, in Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis, IN. Derek was born on October 5, 1973, in Niles, MI. On December 3, 2005, Derek married Sarah Bice. Sarah survives along with a daughter, Gabriella Bice of South Bend; his father and stepmother, John and Connie Watson of St. Charles, MO; his mother and stepfather, Maxine and Jerry Dunfee of Cedar Grove, TN; and two stepbrothers, Gerald Dunfee and John Dunfee. Derek worked as automotive body repairman and also part-time for the South Bend Tribune, was an avid motorcycle rider and quad-rider and a fan of dirt races. He also raced go-carts, starting at age 10, and he raced against Tony Stewart. Derek was very family oriented, and was always thinking of his loved ones and his friends. Family and friends may call Tuesday, September 29, 2009, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 N. Main Street, Mishawaka, where funeral services will also take place on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family.
