Joseph Washko

October 19, 1907 – March 3, 1988

Joseph Washko, 80, of 833 E. Bowman St., died at 1pm Thursday at Greensprings Manor Health Care after an illness.  Mr. Washko had retired from Studebaker Corp. After 35 years of service.

He was born October 29, 1907, in Hungary, and had lived in South Bend 45 years, coming from Pennsylvania.  On May 21, 1931, in South Bend, he married Harriet Szymkowiak.  She died May 6, 1976.  He is survived by two daughters, Therese Schmeltz of Souoth Bend and Dolores Sherman of Cape Coral FL; two grandchildren; two sisters, Anna Beresnyak of Duquesne PA and Elizabeth Wink of Fairfield CA; and a brother, Steve of Melvindale MI.

Services will be at 10am Monday at St Matthew’s Cathedral.  Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.

Friends may call form 3 to 6pm Sunday at Guisinger Colonial Chapel Funeral Home.  He was a member of Holy Name Society of the church and a volunteer for Real Services and St Joseph’s Medical Center.
