Obituary:   Sarah A. Washburn  

Elkhart Truth 27 January, 1930

Mrs. Sarah A. Washburn, 79, died at 9:10 o'clock Saturday night at her home, 515 South Fifth Street. She had been in failing health for a month before becoming bedfast last week, afflicted with anemia.  The funeral will be held Tuesday with a service at 2P.M. at the Charles Walley funeral home, 126 South Second Street, and burial at the Osceola Cemetery, beside the grave of her husband, Cassius M. Washburn.  The Rev. F. E. Fribley of Trinity Methodist church will officiate.  Mrs. Washburn, who was the daughter of Curtis and Catherine (Dills) Abbott, was born Sept. 1, 1850 in Penn Township, St. Joseph County.  Her marriage to Mr. Washburn took place there 53 years ago.  He died in 1907, and eight years later Mrs. Washburn moved to Elkhart.  Surviving are a son Marion Washburn, who lives at the maternal home; two daughters, Mrs. George Shumway of Elkhart and Mrs. Mina Smith of Suplee, Ore; seven grand-children and a great-grandchild; a sister, Mrs. Eliza J. Foreman of Wapinitia, Ore. and a brother James Abbott, also of Wapinitia.
