Edward M. Wartha.
Edward M. Wartha, 72, of 51280 Prescott Ave.,
died at 3:40 p.m. Wednesday in Memorial Hospital. He had
been employed at the former Studebaker Corp. and retired from the
Sisters of St. Convent in maintenance. Born Aug. 29, 1911,
in Michigan city, he had lived in the South Bend area most of his
life. On Oct. 20, 1934, in South Bend, he married the former
Kathryn T. Nemes, who survives. He also is survived
by a daughter, Patricia Schulthels of Mishawaka; a son,
Lawrence E. of South Bend; five grandchildren; a
great-grandchild; and two sisters, Mary Valleau of Rockford,
Ill., and Theresa Goepfrich of South Bend.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in
Christ the King Catholic Church, of which he was a member, and
burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call
from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in Welsheimer North Chapel,
52803 U.S. 33 N., where a parish rosary will be recited at 7:30
p.m. Friday. Mr. Wartha was a member of the Liberty and South
Bend homing pigeon clubs. Memorial contributions may be
made to the Christ the King Building Fund.
