SOUTH BEND - Nancy (Young) Ward, 78, died early Friday
morning, July 4th, in Hospice House, South Bend, following a
period of failing health. She is survived by her daughter, Cindy
L. Ward (Bob Johnson), and her son, James W. Ward III,
both of South Bend. She was born on March 7, 1930, in Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania, and had lived most of her life in that city. She
married James Ward Jr. on June 24, 1950, and the couple moved to
South Bend eight years ago. He preceded her in death on February
7th of this year. Nancy Ward was known for her keen intelligence
and sharp wit, and she regularly laid waste to the New York Times
crossword puzzle. She loved politics, conversation and the
Pittsburgh Steelers, but family was the center of her life. She
enjoyed nothing more than listening to and telling funny stories
about life with her children and husband in Pittsburgh. Nancy
will be missed by family and friends alike.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM
Tuesday, July 8, 2008, in Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1501
W. Cleveland Road, South Bend, IN, where friends may gather to
greet the family beginning at 10:00 AM. The family asks that
donations be made in Nancy Ward's name to The Center for Hospice
and Palliative Care, Inc., 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN
46637-3437. Kaniewski Funeral Home, South Bend, IN, is handling
arrangements.
