SOUTH BEND - Services for Frances H. Ward, 75, of Regency Place, formerly of 634 S. 30th St., who died at 2:50 p.m. Saturday in St. Joseph's Medical Center after an illness, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Hollis-Orvis-Palmer Funeral Home. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, where a wake will be at 7 p.m.
Mrs. Ward retired in 1981 from Kmart as a department manager after 17 years of service. She was born Aug. 18, 1919, in South Boston, Mass., and lived in South Bend most of her life.
On July 3, 1944, in Boston, as Frances H. Blanda, she married Melvin E. Ward Sr. He died April 24, 1965. She is survived by a daughter, Nona A. Ward of Mishawaka; two sons, Melvin E. Jr. of Carmel, Ind., and Joseph S. of Osceola; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Rose DeGirolamo of South Bend, and Ann Maciewicz and Florence Lopez, both of South Boston. She was a member of St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church.
