SOUTH BEND - Medrith Hamlett Walter, 87, of Columbia City (Ind.) Nursing Center, formerly of South Bend, died at 4:40 p.m. Friday in the nursing home. Mrs. Walter retired in 1965 from Robertson's as a department manager.

She was born Feb. 22, 1908, in Rochester, and moved to South Bend in 1927. Surviving are two brothers, William E. Hamlett of Orlando, Fla., and Richard Hamlett of South Bend. She took advanced training at the Chicago and New York schools of cosmetics. She was a member of the Founders Club of the Blackhawk Baptist Church, the Unity School of Christianity, World Literature Crusade and the 25-year Club of Robertson's.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Smith and Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. Burial will be in the IOOF Cemetery, Rochester. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
