Evelyn (Black) Walsh, 82, was born
Sept. 1, 1923, in Rockford, Ill., to William F and Loretta
(Mailander) Black. She passed away after an illness at
5:15 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, June 11, in Hospice House of South
Bend. On May 18, 1946, she married Joseph A. Walsh, and to this
union were born Mike (Jan), William Thomas (deceased) (widow
Ellen), Gerald William and Kathleen Huys.
She is survived by seven grandchildren,
Selena Walsh, Kelley (Aaron) Berlin, Carrie Walsh, Joseph
Walsh, all of Austin, Texas, Mary (Connor) Bales of
Coppell, Texas, Daniel Huys of Mishawaka and Andrew (Katie) Huys
of Eden Prairie, Minn. Evelyn had five great-granddaughters,
Ashley, Anna and Emily Berlin, Kathryn Bales and Renee Marie
Walsh. "Evie" worked for 36 years as secretary for the
St. Joseph County Department of Public Welfare, from which she
retired. An avid Cubs fan, she also loved to read, play bridge
and & "nuts & bolts" for her bridge partners,
and was the family's favorite "cookie baker,"
especially at Christmas time! She was preceded in death by her
parents, a sister and brother, as well as her son, Thomas, 36,
and two grandchildren, Timothy, 12 and Jennifer, 9.
Friends may call in the McGann Hay, University Chapel, 2313 E. Edison Road, today, June 14, from 5 to 8 p.m., with a Rosary being prayed at 6 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 15, in St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. In lieu of all flowers, please make donations to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637. The Walsh family would like to convey their special thanks for all the kindnesses & special efforts made to make Mrs. Walsh more comfortable. You all will always be in our thanks and prayers.
