Leo T. Wallisch

SOUTH BEND - Leo T. Wallisch, 88, passed away at 8:40 a.m.
Wednesday, January 23, 2008, in his residence. Leo was born on
April 7, 1919, in South Bend, to Johann and Martina (Hafner)
Wallisch. He retired from the United States Postal Service where
he was a carrier for 30 years. Mr. Wallisch was a World War II
Army veteran, a member of the American Legion Post 161, Holy
Cross Catholic Church, a YMCA "Olympic Member" and part
of the Michiana Polka Singers for 14 years. He was an avid writer
who often contributed to the Voice of the People.
On October 5, 1946, in Our Lady of Hungary
Church, he married the former Rose Kuzmits, who survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Marilyn (Michael) Vellner
of South Bend, Shirley (Walter) Barkas of Mishawaka and
Rosemarie (Bill) Nelson of Mobile, AL; six grandchildren,
Michael Vellner, Christopher Vellner, Paul Vellner, Ann Marie
(Brian) Arterbery, John Lanko and Erin Anderson;
10 great-grandchildren, Matthew, Katie, Theresa, Christian,
Christiane, Charissa, Megan, John, Shannon and Bailey; and a
sister, Katie Fish of South Bend. Leo was preceded in
death by his parents; his brother, Frank Kallinger;
brother-in-law, Dan Fish; and sister-in-law, Helen Kallinger.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be
celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 29, 2008, in Holy Cross
Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Family and friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday in the
Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 Kemble Avenue, where a Rosary will be
recited at 5:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Holy
Cross Church.
