SOUTH BEND - Joe Max Wallace, 68, of Hartzler Avenue, died at 7:20 a.m. Thursday in his home of natural causes. Mr. Walker retired in 1985 from Commonwealth Insurance Co. He was born Feb. 21, 1927, in Frankfort, Ind., and lived in South Bend most of his life.

On March 4, 1948, in South Bend, he married Shirley Newman. She survives with a daughter, Linda Wiegand of Lakeville; a son, Rev. Terry of South Bend; seven grandchildren; his mother, Wanda Wallace of South Bend; a sister, Donna Miller of Tucson, Ariz.; and two brothers, Lars of South Bend and Glenn of Nashville, Tenn.

He was an Army veteran of World War II and member of Bowlers Country Club and Fellowship Baptist Church.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Forest G. Hay Funeral Home, 435 S. Ironwood Drive. Burial will be in Southlawn Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
