SOUTH BEND – Miss Gertrude E. Wachs, 92, of St. Paul's Retirement Community, South Bend, Ind., passed away unexpectedly at 9:45 a.m. on Thursday, May 21, in the St. Joseph's Medical Center, South Bend. Gertrude was born on July 18, 1905, in Steger, Ill., to Joseph and Gertrude (Tremel) Wachs. She had lived most of her life in the South Bend/Mishawaka area.
She retired in 1970 from Bendix (Allied Signal), was a member of the Daughters of Isabella, and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mishawaka, Ind. She is survived by many nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 26, in St. Joseph Church, with Fr. Robert A. Yast officiating. Friends may visit at the Thallemer-Goethals Funeral Home, Mishawaka, one hour prior to her services on Tuesday. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, Ind. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of donor's choice.
