Nancy Vogelgesang

 June 1, 1950 - Feb. 24, 2010
LAS VEGAS, NV - Nancy (Glon) Vogelgesang passed away on Wednesday, February 24, 2010 in Las Vegas. Survivors include her husband, Bill Vogelgesang; son, Roger Milnes; stepson, David Vogelgesang; granddaughter, Tiffany Milnes; grandson, Michael Escobedo, sisers, Debbie (Dave) Snyder and Rosa Ullery; and brother, Ron (Cindy) Glon. Her true love was music, family, and traveling. Some of her best memories were going on vacation with her husband and kids and her trips with her sister, Rosa. In the past ten years of her life she fought against all odds just to live. In 1999, she suffered a brain aneurysm, which left her in a coma for a week. Nobody gave her a chance to survive. She woke up with damage to the left side of her body. She had to learn how to talk and use her arm and leg again. Her dream was to one day walk again. With her inner strength and determination, which she got from her mom, she accomplished this feat. She was in a charity walk in Las Vegas. It wasn't a long distance by any measure, but after everyone finished, they looked down the street and saw somebody walking toward the finish line. It was Nancy using her walking cane. Everyone started to cheer and clap until she crossed the finish line with tears in her eyes. I think they realized that she didn't finish last, but instead finished first. Her husband said that she wanted to cross the finish line to prove that she could do it. Two years ago, she suffered a stroke and her body started to deteriorate quickly. She was in and out of the hospital, and ended up in a nursing home. Her only wish was to come home to South Bend and see her family at that point. She is now on her last trip, her last vacation, her last marathon. She is finally coming home and then to heaven, where the crowd will be waiting for her to cross the finish line. As she gets closer to the crowd, she sees familiar faces; Busia (mom) Dzia Dzia (dad), Don, Jane, Sonny, Jimmy, Matt, and others. As she crosses the finish line, she smiles and says, "I'm finally home." It is said that it's not how much time we spend on earth to determine what our life's worth is, but who we loved, touched, and inspired. You will be missed. A Memorial Service will be celebrated at 2:00 pm on Saturday, March 6, 2010 in ST JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd. Condolences for the family may be made at www.sjfh.net.
