Catherine Violi
Feb. 7, 1915 - June 18, 2002
Catherine "Kitty" Violi, 87, of North Division Street, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away after a brief illness at 9:07 a.m. on Tuesday, June 18, in Saint Joseph Community Hospital, Mishawaka.
Kitty was born on Feb. 7, 1915, in Mishawaka, to the late Alphonsus and Jenny (Schroeder) Arata. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Edward and Louis Arata.
On Feb. 9, 1939, in St. Monica Church, Kitty married Frank Violi, who survives. She is also survived by a daughter, Mary Ann Dimitrakopoulos of Mishawaka; a son, Frank (Kelley) Violi of Zionsville, Ind.; three grandchildren, Lauren and Daniel Violi, and Anjelica Dimitrakopoulos; two sisters, Adelaide (Richard) Caleal of Farmington Hills, Mich., and Agnes Laux of Dayton, Ohio; and by four brothers, Joseph (Eugenia) Arata of Osceola, Ind., Dr. Lucian Arata of Shelbyville, Ind., Dr. Justin (Imelda) Arata and Dr. James (Jane) Arata, both of Fort Wayne, Ind.
Kitty had worked at the Securities and Exchange Commission in Washington, D.C., from 1934 to 1936, then at the Social Security Administration in South Bend, Ind. After that, she was the office manager at the Remington-Rand Corporation in South Bend. She was a member of St. Monica Church, its Rosary Society, the Home and School Association, the Theresians, Legion of Mary, and the Questers Antique Club. She was a member of the St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary working in the gift shop and was a member of the Art in Public Places Committee of Mishawaka. She was a 1933 graduate of Mishawaka High School.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 20, in the Thallemer-Goethals Funeral Home, Mishawaka, where a Rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m., with Fr. Derrick Sneyd officiating. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Mishawaka.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Art in Public Places Committee of Mishawaka.
