SOUTH BEND - Fred H. Vinson, 78, of South Bend, passed
away at 12:08 am, Friday, April 18, 2008 in Woodland Manor
Nursing Home, Elkhart. Fred was born on September 10, 1929 in
Elkmont, Alabama to the late Clinton and Bertha (Compton)
Vinson. He is also preceded in death by one son, Steve Vinson on
April 18, 1981; three brothers, Alvin, and Clifford Vinson and
four sisters, Loretta Blackwell, Geneva Ellenberg,
Clura Atwell, and Grace Johns.
On September 25, 1951, in Elkhart he married
Azzie L. Porter. She still survives, along with one son Michael
(Teri) Vinson of Elkhart and two daughters, Debbie (David) Sisk
of Fayetteville, GA and Nancy Vinson of South Bend; three
grandchildren, Sarah (Dustin) Stuffle, Amy (fiancé Josh)
Vinson and Matthew Sisk. He is also survived by one brother,
Vernon Vinson. He proudly served his country for 21/2 years
during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged in 1953.
He was in the Heating and Air Conditioning business for about 40
years before his retirement in 1991. The last four years of his
career, he owned and operated Fred's Service. He belonged to the
Woodmen of the World Life Insurance Lodge #6001. He had retired
in Florida for the past 10 years during the winter months, where
he did a lot of fishing.
Friends may visit with the family from 2 to
6 p.m., Sunday, April 20, 2008 in Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776
McKinley Highway, Osceola. Funeral services will be held at 1:00
p.m., Monday, April 21, 2008 in the funeral home with burial to
follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.
