MISHAWAKA Rev. Michael J. Vichuras,
77, of 4305 Vistula Road, died at 12:45 a.m. Friday in Sacred
Heart Home, Avilla. He was born Sept. 24, 1913 in Gary and lived
in Mishawaka since 1962. He was ordained to the Catholic
priesthood in 1940. He was a graduate of St. Josephs
College and Suipician Seminary of Catholic University,
Washington. He completed graduate studies at the University of
Notre Dame.
Rev. Vichuras was a teacher and principal at
Fort Wayne Catholic High Schoolo and was instrumental in
establishing St. Joseph High School in South Bend, where hje
served as principal. He was pastor of Sacred Heart parish in
Lakeville and served many years at Queen of Peace Parish in
Mishawaka, retiring in 1990.
He celebrated his
50th anniversary in the priesthood in 1990. Surviving
are two sisters, Rose Nelson of Downey, Calif., and Sister
M. Evelyn Vichuras of Chicago; and a brother Charles of
Valparaiso.
Services will be at 11 a.m. in Queen of
Peace Parish. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends
may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday and one hour before services
Monday in the chruch, where a wake will be held at 7:30 p.m.
Sunday. Warner Funeral Home, Osceola, is in charge of
arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Fort Wayne
Clergy Relief Society.
