MISHAWAKA - Martha I. Vervynckt, age 76, of Mishawaka, passed away Dec. 29, 2012 at Golden Living Center in Mishawaka, Indiana. Martha was born Sept. 25, 1936 to the late Morris and Pauline (Popielski) Vervynckt. Martha was a resident of Mishawaka and graduated from Mishawaka High School. Surviving are her sons, Bill (Suzie) Vervynckt and David "Sarge" (Diane) Vervynckt, both of Mishawaka. Also surviving are her four beautiful grandchildren, Kurtiss (Susie) Vervynckt of San Diego, CA, Sarah Vervynckt of Mishawaka, Hanna (Brian) Cowden of CT, and Amanda Vervynckt of Mishawaka, and a step-granddaughter, Kalana Fitzsimons of Mishawaka. Also surviving are four great granddaughters, Ericka, Pearl, Cora and Sofia, and a great grandson, Chase. Martha is survived as well by her brothers, Marshall Vervynckt of Mishawaka, Ron (Pat) Vervynckt of Granger, and Larry (Marge) Vervynckt of Carmel, IN; sisters, Phyllis (Doug) Kessler of Mishawaka & Bertha Wrobleski of Chicago, IL; and her brother-in-law, Merle of Mishawaka. She was preceded in death by her sister, Shirley, her brother, Robert Vervynckt, and her sister-in-law, Janice. Cremation will take place, and a celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Osceola is handling arrangements. Martha was employed for over 40 years at Burcliff Industries in Mishawaka. Prior to her retirement, she moved to North Carolina where she met her male friend Frank McConnell, who preceded her in death after relocating back to Mishawaka. Martha was talented with quilting, sewing and craft making. She and her sister Shirley sold many of their items at craft bazaars in the area and were known as "Quilts-n-Things by Shirley and Martha."
