MISHAWAKA – Mrs. Martha Vervaet, 67, of 704 W. 11^th Street, was dead on arrival Sunday evening at St. Joseph Hospital, where she was taken by the city ambulance after a sudden illness in her home. She was born in Belgium on March 2, 1909, she lived in Mishawaka since 1912, coming from Belgium. She was a 1971 retiree of Uniroyal, Inc., where she had worked for 41 years.

As Martha Mertens, she married William Vervaet Sr. in Mishawaka on Aug. 27, 1927.He survives with a son, William Jr. a city policeman; four grandchildren and a great grandchild.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the Thallemer-Goethals Funeral Home. Services will be at noon Wednesday in St. Bavo’s Catholic Church and burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.
