Cyril "Cy" August Vervaet,
83, of Huntly Ct., South Bend, passed away at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday,
October 3, in his home surrounded by his family. Cyril was born
on May 15, 1923, in Mishawaka, at home, as the only son of Hector
and Erma (DeBaets) Vervaet. He was preceded in death by
his parents and four sisters, Jennie Vervaet, Irene Kohler,
Gloria Kepler and Dorothy Ciula.
On November 21, 1941, in Osceola, IN he
married the former Betty June Spotts. Surviving Cy are his
loving wife, Betty; four children, Richard G. (Sharon) Vervaet of
Buckeye, AZ, Gary A. Vervaet of Leesburg, IN, Jill E. (Reece) Price
of Cassopolis and Geoffrey D. (Georganne) Vervaet of Walkerton,
IN; 18 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren and beloved dog,
Cetty. Cy spent four years in the United States Army, where he
served his country proudly during WW II with the 632nd Quarter
Master company 5th Army. He was a boy scout leader of troop 333,
a baseball coach for the South Side Little League for 17 years
and past president of BK Club in Mishawaka for three years. He
was a tool and die maker at Raco before he retired. Cy was a head
usher, to a loving church family, at First Brethren Church of
South Bend. He loved to work with children and devoted many years
to that pleasure through boy scouts and baseball, among other
ways over the years. Cy was a truly wonderful man who dearly
loved his family, his friends and his church family not to
mention all of the children he came to know and help through out
the years.
Family and friends may visit from 4 to 7
p.m. on Friday, October 6, in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th
Street, Mishawaka. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on
Saturday, October 7, with a one hour visitation prior to services
at, First Brethren Church of South Bend with Rev. Larry Baker
officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka
where the VFW Post 360 and American Legion Post 156 will perform
Military Rites. Memorial contributions may be made in Cy's name
to the First Brethren Church of South Bend, 4909 S. Ironwood,
