16, 1927 - Mar. 11, 2010MISHAWAKA - Evelyn M. Verstraete, 82, of Mishawaka, passed away Thursday, March 11, 2010 in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. She had resided for the last 2 and a half years at Golden Living Center, Mishawaka. "Evie" was born April 16, 1927 in South Bend, a daughter of the late Warren and Frances (Price) Sessler. She grew up in South Bend. On July 8, 1967, Evie married Maurice "Maury" Verstraete. The couple made Mishawaka their home. Evie was employed for nearly 25 years with Uniroyal in Mishawaka. She was a life member and past president of American Legion #308 Auxiliary. Evie was also a life member of American Legion #161 Auxiliary and VFW #360 Auxiliary. She enjoyed making ceramics and crafts. Evie and Maury loved dancing and fishing together. Evie's surviving family includes her husband, Maury; a son, Robert (Louise) Snyder of Osceola; two step-sons, Maurice Verstraete of California and David (Carol) Verstraete of South Bend; 16 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandson. Evie was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Snyder; three sisters, Margaret, Grace and Virginia; three brothers, Owen, Norman and Eugene; and a grandson. Friends may spend time with Evie's family Monday from 11 am - 1 pm in Thallemer, Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. 3rd Street, Mishawaka. Services will be held Monday at 1 pm in the funeral home with Rev. Daniel Scheidt officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka. Memorial contributions may be given to the charity of one's choice.
