Prudence Verslype
Aug. 26, 1921 -- Nov. 9, 2005
Prudence "Mayme" Verslype, 84,
passed away after an extended illness in the early morning of
Wednesday, Nov. 9th, 2005, in her daughter's home.
Mayme was a lifelong resident of Mishawaka.
She was born Prudence Amata Biesbrouck into a family of eight
brothers and sisters on Aug. 26, 1921. On Sept. 21, 1943, she
married Desire "Dish" Verslype, who preceded her in
death.
Mayme devoted her life to the family she
started with Dish in 1943. The couple set deep roots in
Mishawaka; one of the first was to build a home on 14th Street.
Mayme spent her life as an active member of the Mishawaka Belgian
community and a dedicated parishioner of St. Bavo Catholic
Church. She was one of the best Belgian cooks in Mishawaka. We'll
all remember her homemade bread, Christmas cookies and
Thanksgiving dinners.
She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and
great-grandmother. Mayme will be deeply missed, but we are all
comforted knowing she is with Dish and the Blessed Mary.
Mayme is survived by her son, Michael
Verslype; three daughters, Susan Liddell (Tim), Marie Verslype
and Nicolette Duncan (Jim). Also surviving are nine
grandchildren, Danielle Kasznia (Vic), Travis Verslype (Teresa),
Culleen Sullivan (Dan), Erin Becker, Brianne Milligan (Ryan),
Molly Becker, Sean Liddell (Sarah), Brian Liddell and Kyle
Liddell. Mayme is also survived by six great-grandchildren, Gavin
Verslype, Luke Kasznia, Kathryn Verslype, Alex Kasznia, Ella
Milligan and Lainie Kasznia.
Visitation will be in the Hahn Funeral Home,
505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka, today, Thursday, Nov. 10, from 4 to
8 p.m., where a Rosary will be held at 7:45 p.m., and on Friday,
Nov. 11, from 9 to 10 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial in
celebration of Mayme's life will be offered at St. Bavo Catholic
Church on Friday, Nov. 11, at 10 a.m., with Rev. Barry England
officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Bavo
Catholic Church.
