May 7, 1910 - July 17, 1996
Henry A. Verslype of 13th Street, Mishawaka,
Ind., passed away at 10:45 p.m. Wednesday, July 17, at Ironwood
Health & Rehabilitation Center after an illness.
Mr. Verslype was born on May 7, 1910, in
Westende, Belgium, and lived here since 1923, coming from Rock
Island, Ill.
On July 17, 1930, in St. Bavo's Catholic
Church, Mishawaka, Ind., he married Mary Van Poppel, who survives
with three sons, John of El Paso, Texas, Phillip of Mishawaka,
Ind., Paul of Centerville, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; four
great-grandchildren; one brother, Desire Verslype of Mishawaka,
Ind.; two sisters, Margaret De Wulf of Mishawaka, Ind., Marie
Miller of Traverse City, Mich. One daughter, Rosemary Scheuer,
preceded him in death on June 28, 1995.
Mr. Verslype was a recognized Belgian
historian and author of ''Belgians of Indiana,'' as well as many
items on Belgians and their history in numerous publications. He
also presented frequent lectures on these subjects. Mr. and Mrs.
Verslype were active in Square, Ballroom and Round dancing their
entire adult life, and have attended many State, National and
International conventions as well as numerous work shops all over
the Mid-West. Mr. Verslype was a member of American Heritage
Round Table, Northern Indiana Historical Society, Indiana
Historical Society, The Broederenkring, Belgian Researchers, The
Geneology Society of Flemish Americans, Flemings in the World,
Center for Belgian Culture of Western Illinois and Uniroyal Men's
Club.
Visitation will be at Hahn Funeral Home, 505
W. 8th St., Mishawaka, Ind., today July 19, from 3-6 p.m. A
rosary will be held at 4 p.m in the Funeral Home. Services will
be at 1 p.m. July 20, at St. Bavo's Catholic Church, Mishawaka.
Burial to follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, Ind.
