MISHAWAKA - Neil Vernasco, 80, of Autumn Court, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away after an illness at 3:20 p.m. on Friday, April 25, in St. Joseph Community Hospital, Mishawaka.
Mr. Vernasco was born on June 7, 1916, in Mishawaka. On March 17, 1989, in St. Bavo's Catholic Church, he married Flora Nemeth, who survives. He is also survived by a son, Andy (Elsie Ann) Nemeth of Granger, Ind.; three daughters, Patricia (Tim) Chapman of South Bend, Ind., Kimberlee (Michael) Griggs of Wakarusa, Ind., and Buffy Lee Nemeth of Elkhart, Ind.; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a sister, Yole (John) Fassero of Mishawaka; and by a brother, Ted (Lee) Vernasco of St. Joseph, Mich.
Mr. Vernasco was retired as president of the Peanuts Speciality Company in Chicago, Ill., and as chairman of the board for the Cosmopolitan Bank in Chicago.
He was a member of St. Bavo's Catholic Church, the De Amicis Club, the Elks Club, Eagles Aerie 2093, the B-K Club and the Elkhart Moose.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday in St. Bavo's Catholic Church, Mishawaka, with Rev. James Shafer and Rev. John Fassero officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka.
Friends may call from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday at the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. Wake prayers will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Monday in the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Bavo's Catholic Church or School, or to the charity of donor's choice.
