MISHAWAKA - Joseph Vernasco, 92, of 12th Street, passed away after an illness at 2:40 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 20, in St. Joseph Community Hospital, Mishawaka, Ind.
Mr. Vernasco was born on Feb. 29, 1904, in Carpento, Piacenza, Italy, the son of Pietro and Maria Vernasco. Mr. Vernasco moved to this area in 1922, coming from Carpento, Piacenza, Italy, and was a lifelong area resident.
On Jan. 4, 1930, in St. Bavo's Catholic Church, Mishawaka, he married Mary Zanotti, who survives. He is also survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph P. (Barbara J.) Vernasco, Jr., of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Walter L. (Mary Jo) Vernasco of Cary, N.C.; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Desolina Belli of Mishawaka.
Mr. Vernasco was an employee of Uniroyal in Mishawaka for 43 years, retiring in 1966. He was a member of St. Bavo's Catholic Church and of the De Amici's Club of Mishawaka.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 24, in St. Bavo's Catholic Church, Mishawaka, with Rev. James Shafer officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery.
Friends may call from 1 to 7 p.m. on Sunday at Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. Eighth St., Mishawaka, with a rosary to be recited at 4 p.m.
