James M. Verleye

SOUTH BEND - James M. Verleye, 68, passed away at 9:58 a.m. on Sunday, May 16, 2010, in Morningside Nursing and Memory Care Center. James was born on September 3, 1941, in Mishawaka, to the late August and Irene (VanOoteghem) Verleye. On November 28, 1964, in South Bend, James married Elaine (Matthys). She survives along with daughters, Dawn Verleye of South Bend, Diane Verleye of South Bend, Debbie (Kerry) Faulkenberg of Anderson, IN, and Danielle (Nathan) Goffinet of Lakeville; son, David Verleye of South Bend; grandchildren, James and Jon Faulkenberg, and Abby, Caitlyn, Megan and Brenden Goffinet; brothers, Steve (Mary Ann) Verleye of Seattle, WA, and Gary (Linda) Verleye of Cincinnati, OH. James was an umpire for Little League District 11 for over 20 years and was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus #553. He was an usher for Notre Dame football for 40 years and was an all-around Notre Dame sports fan. He loved his model trains and to garden. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Morningside Nursing and Memory Care Center for their excellent care. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 20, 2010, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, where a Rosary will be prayed at 5:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 21, 2010, in St. Catherine of Siena Parish at St. Jude Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson Research Center or to Southern Care Hospice, 310 W. McKinley Ave., Suite 340, Mishawaka, IN 46546. For those who are unable to attend the funeral Mass, condolences for the family may be made at www.sjfh.net.
