SOUTH BEND - Irene Vegh, 84, of South Bend, passed away on
Tuesday, January 15, 2008, in the Holy Cross Care and
Rehabilitation Center. She was born on July 3, 1923, in South
Bend, to Michael and Helen (Michalski) Lemanski,
who preceded her in death along with two sisters, Josephine Lippy
and Elanore Plencner, and brothers, Stanley and Edward
Lemanski.
On September 18, 1948, Irene married John Z.
Vegh, who passed away Sept. 5, 1986. Surviving Irene are a
daughter, Sherry Monier of Austin, Texas; a son, John
(Linda) Vegh of Osceola; four grandchildren, Emily and Jeff Vegh,
Rachel (Jonathan) Spies and Jeremiah McElroy; one
great-granddaughter, Asher; and a brother, Casimir (Jean)
Lemanski of South Bend. Irene was a member of St. Jude Church.
She enjoyed reading, cross stitching, and watching sports,
especially Notre Dame and the Cubs. Irene honorably served the
U.S. Army as a physical therapist tech during WWII.
Visitation will be on Thursday, Jan. 17,
2008, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. in St. Joseph Funeral Home, 1827 E.
Ireland Road. A Rosary will be prayed at 4 p.m. Funeral services
will be on Friday, Jan. 18, 2008, at 10 a.m. in the funeral home.
Entombment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend.
