Stephen Vecs, 77, of Ironwood Health and Rehabilitation Center, South Bend, Ind., passed away at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 8, in the center. Mr. Vecs retired from the United States Postal Service and was a World War II Army veteran. He was born on March 11, 1922 in South Bend to John and Margaret Vecs, who both preceded him in death.

He is survived by a sister, Margaret Deranek of South Bend; a brother, John Vecs, Jr. of Mishawaka, Ind.; four nieces, Judy Deranek, Susan Deranek, Nancy Vecs, and Margie Currier; and by two nephews, Ronald Deranek and Steven Vecs.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 12 in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 S. Kemble Avenue. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 11, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905.
