Joseph J. Varga

Joseph J. Varga, 76, of St. John's
Way, South Bend, Ind., passed away at 4:04 p.m. on Monday, April
21, in St. Joseph's Medical Center. Mr. Varga was born May 21,
1920, in South Bend, where he was a lifelong resident. He retired
in October 1985 after 11 years in the Brake & Steering
Division of the Bendix Corporation. He was also a self-employed
carpenter for 33 years.
On May 25, 1946, in South Bend, he married
Mary C. Chillag, who survives. He is also survived by
three sons, Richard Varga and his wife Ellen of Rockford, Ill.,
Randolph Varga and his wife Connie of South Bend, Joseph Frank
Varga and his fiancee Connie of South Bend; five grandchildren,
Tracy, Kelley, Shayne, Maranda and Ryan Varga; and by two
brothers, John W. Vargo and Emery Vargo, both of South Bend. Two
brothers, Frank and Steve Vargo, preceded him in death.
Mr. Varga was a member of Memorial
Presbyterian Church; a former board member of the Foxwood Hills
Home Association at Cass Lake in Middlebury, Ind.; the William
Penn Association; Moose Lodge 58; American Legion Post 50; and
was a World War II Army veteran.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on
Friday in Memorial Presbyterian Church, Rev. Stephen Mullin
officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery, where
members of American Legion Post 50 will conduct military
services. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today in the
Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive. Memorial
