Alice Van Wanzeele (Aug. 4, 1918 -- June 10,
2006)
Alice Van Wanzeele, 87, of 7110 S.
900E, Otterbein, Ind., died at 1:05 a.m. Saturday, June 10 in University
Place, West Lafayette, Ind.
She was born on Aug. 4, 1918, in Otterbein
to the late William Harrington and Nellie Cain. On March
22, 1945, in Lafayette, she married Albert Van Wanzeele who
preceded her in death on Jan. 8, 2006. Also preceding her in
death were a brother, Bill Harrington; and two sisters, Kathleen Batz
and Louise Di Paola.
She had resided in the Otterbein area most
of her life. She was a 1935 graduate of St. Francis High School
in Lafayette, Ind., and a 1939 graduate of Purdue University. She
had taught in South Bend, Walkerton, Syracuse and Benton Community
Schools. She was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church and also
sang with their choir. She was also a member of the Third Order
and Home EC Club. She was a volunteer with St. Elizabeth Hospital
Auxiliary and enjoyed square dancing.
Survivors include four sons, Steven Van
Wanzeele of Plainfield, Ind., David Van Wanzeele of Monticello,
Ind., Dennis (Sherri) Van Wanzeele and Alan Van Wanzeele, both of
Otterbein; a daughter, Susan (David) Scheessele of
Yorktown, Va.; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two
brothers, Timothy Harrington of Peoria, Ill., Jeremy Harrington
OFM of Cincinnati, Ohio; and two sisters, Betty Hendrix of
Seymour, Ind., and Ann Wadelton of Indianapolis, Ind.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday June
14, in St. Charles Catholic Church, with Father Jeremy
Harrington, officiating. Burial will be in Tippecanoe Memory Gardens,
West Lafayette, IN.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in
Shoemaker Funeral Home, Otterbein.
Memorials maybe made to Otterbein Area Volunteer Fire &
Rescue or to Franciscan Friars.
