MISHAWAKA - Lorraine Marie Van Vooren, 78, passed away in
her home on Sunday, June 22, 2008. Lorraine was born on December
10, 1929, in Mishawaka, as the daughter of August and Molvina (DeRoo)
Spybroeck. She was preceded in death by her parents, and
two sisters, Clarice Gestbaure and Martina Cackowski.
On May 6, 1950, in St. Bavo Catholic Church,
as the former Lorraine Spybroeck, she married Harry R. Van
Vooren. Surviving Lorraine are her loving husband of 58 years,
Harry; three sons, Andy (Philomena) Van Vooren of Granger, James
(Sandy) Van Vooren of Granger and Steve (Janice) Van Vooren of
Osceola; six grandchildren, Cynthia Van Vooren, Julie Fleming,
Nicole Van Vooren, Brandon Van Vooren, Andrea Van Vooren and Eric
Van Vooren; three great-grandchildren, Collin and Alex Fleming,
and Salena Van Vooren; a sister, Rachel Shafer of
Mishawaka; and a brother, Cyril (Mary Lee) Spybroeck of
Mishawaka. Lorraine worked at the West End Bakery, Mishawaka, for
25 years before retiring in 1987. She was a 1947 graduate of
Mishawaka High School. She was a member of St. Bavo Catholic
Church and a former member of the BK Club Ladies Auxiliary.
Lorraine was a very devout, avid Chicago Cubs fan; she really
loved her Cubs, never losing faith in her "boys" no
matter what kind of season they were having.
Following Lorraine's wishes there will be no
visitation. There will be a private burial for her immediate
family members and their families. Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th
Street, Mishawaka, has been entrusted with handling the
arrangements. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers,
contributions may be made in Lorraine's name to The Center for
Hospice and Palliative Care, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN
46637; or to St. Bavo Catholic Church, 511 W. 7th Street,
Mishawaka, IN 46544.
