OSCEOLA - James Lewis VanSkyhock Sr., 81, of 10659 Fairview Ave., Osceola, died at 1:55 p.m. Friday in St. Joseph Hospital, Mishawaka, after an illness. Mr. VanSkyhock retired as a meatcutter from A & P food chain, after 20 years. He was born April 17, 1914, in Marinette, Wis., and came here in 1946 from Milwaukee.
On Oct. 21, 1945, in Elkhart, he married Helen Bachtel. She survives with three daughters, Sally Ann Wychowski of Milwaukee, Sharon Poff of LaCruz, N.M., and Robbin Firginson of Elkhart; three sons, James L. Jr. of Muskego Beach, Wis., Shane L. of Lexington, Ky., and D. Michael of Elkhart; 14 grandchildren; three great-granchildren; and two brothers, Earl of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Charles of Eagle River, Wis. He was past commander and member of American Legion Post 308, and a World War II Army Air Corps veteran.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Warner Funeral Home. Burial will be in Olive Cemetery, Elkhart. Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
