SOUTH BEND – Charles F. Van Ooteghem, 73, of 37233 Allen Road, died at 10:20 p.m. Friday in Memorial Hospital. He retired in 1981 as a machinist with Studebaker Corp. and Wheelabrator-Fyre. Born Nov. 10, 1918, in South Bend, he was a lifelong area resident.

On Feb. 23, 1946, in Mishawaka, he married Inez Ciavatta. She survives with a son, Charles Jr. of Malcomb, Ill.; and three granddaughters. He was a member of Moose Lodge 58, Mishawaka Eagles, Bowlers Country Club, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and was an army veteran of World War II and the Korean conflict.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Kaniewski & Sons Funeral Home.
