Katherine Van Huffel

April 28, 1921 - July 16, 2000

Katherine "Katie" Van Huffel, 79, of Ardennes Avenue, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away at 6 p.m. on Sunday, July 16, after an automobile accident at the Audubon Wildlife Sanctuary on Clover Road, Mishawaka.

Mrs. Van Huffel was born on April 28, 1921, in Chicago, Ill., as the daughter of the late Alexander and Olga (Stasula) Sukonnyk. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Olga Grubbs and Pauline Jerzak.

On Oct. 4, 1941, in St. Bavo's Catholic Church, Mishawaka, as the former Katherine Sukonnyk, she married Francis Van Huffel. Mrs. Van Huffel leaves to cherish her memories her husband, Francis of 58 years; one daughter, Susan (John) Nagle of White Hall, Mont.; five sisters, Rosa Mitchell, Ann Grzeskowiak, Helen Mikulyuk, all of Mishawaka, Mary Hacker and Natalie Winrote, both of South Bend, Ind.; three brothers, Tony Moshak of Beardstown, Ill., John Moshak of Skokie, Ill., and Bill Moshak of Mishawaka.

Mrs. Van Huffel was a member of St. Monica's Catholic Church, Mishawaka, was a member of A.A.R.P., and was a local, state and national member of the Audubon Society, Nature Conservancy.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today, July 19, in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 West 8th Street, Mishawaka, where a Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 20, in St. Monica's Catholic Church, Mishawaka, with Rev. Derrick Sneyd officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park.
