SOUTH BEND - Dee C. Vanett, 78, of
Scott Street, passed away after a lengthy illness at 8 p.m. on
Monday, Sept. 6, in the Ironwood Health and Rehabilitation
Center. Mr. Vanett worked as a maintenance foreman at Bike Web,
RACO, and retired from White Farm Equipment in 1982.
He was born on Jan. 20, 1921, in South Bend,
Ind., to Lawrence and Marie Vanett, who both preceded him in
death.
On June 15, 1946, in South Bend, he married
Violet Balaban, who survives. He is also survived by a
daughter, Marie (George) Gusich of South Bend; two grandsons,
Richard Boits of Bloomington, Ind., and Jordan Gusich of
South Bend; two sisters, Eloise Kaminski of South Bend and
Margie Simcox of Milford, Ind.; three brothers, Roy Vanett
of Las Vegas, Nev., Don Vanett and Ray Vanett, both of South
Bend; and by several nieces and nephews.
Dee was a World War II veteran of the 9th
Air Force, a member of the 9th Air Force Association and the
406th Fighter Group Association.
Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on
Thursday, Sept. 9, in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 S. Kemble
Avenue. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park,
Granger, Ind. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today
in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the
American Diabetes Association or to Saints Peter and Paul Serbian
Orthodox Church
