Joseph VanDeWalle, 79, of 5733 York
Road, died at 8:45 p.m. Sunday in St. Joseph Hospital, Mishawaka.
Mr. VanDeWalle was a golf pro for 28 years at Erskine Park Golf
Course and was employed five years at Studebaker Golf Course. He
was born July 6, 1906, in Mishawaka, and was a life-long area
resident. His first wife Ruth Larsen, died in 1948. On Jan.
21, 1952, in South Bend, he married Cecilia Abraham, who
survives. Also surviving are four daughters, Susan Tinny
of Miami, Fla., Sister Karen VanDeWalle of Indianapolis, Carolyn Niedbalski
of Lakevillee and JoAnn Luppert of Noblesville, Ind.;
six grandchildren; and three brothers, Charles, Hillary and
Albert, all of Mishawaka.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in
Guisinger Colonial Chapel Funeral Home. He was a member of St.
Jude’s Catholic Church, and was a third degree member of
Knights of Columbus, South Bend Council 5521. Memorial
contributions may be made to American Cancer Society of St. Jude’s
Childrens Research Hospital.
