Louis C. Van DeVeire, aged 81, of 125 East
Bowman street, died at 2:40 p.m. Tuesday in Memorial hospital
where he was taken Monday morning after suffering a heart attack
in the 100 block of East Calvert street. He was ill for two
years. Born in Oost-Eecklo, Belgium, Dec. 26, 1867, he came here
46 years ago from Chicago. In 1913 in Sacred Heart Catholic
church, 1126 West Thomas street, he married Miss Marie Louise
Wille, who survives. For 36 years prior to his retirement eight
years ago he was employed by the Oliver corporation. Besides his
widow, he is survived by four sons, Frank of South Bend; Arthur,
John and Cyriel, all of Detroit, Michigan; three daughters, Mrs.
Frank Barna Jr., of South Bend; Mrs. Raymond Fredette, of
Chicago; Mrs. Joseph Meribela, of Mishawaka; 11 grandchildren and
one great-grandchild; one sister, Mrs. Bernard Van Hoecke, who
lives in Belgium. Friends may call in the DeVos chapel, Mishawaka,
until 8:30 a.m. Friday when his body will be taken to the Sacred
Heart Catholic church for funeral services there at 9 a. m. Rev.
Edmund J. Phillippe, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in
Fairview Catholic cemetery, of Mishwaka. He was a member of St.
Vincent De Paul society of Sacred Heart church. The rosary will
be recited at 7:30 p. m. Thursday in the Sacred Heart church.

name of Charles Louis; records in Belgium state he was born December
25, 1867, v.s. December 24, 1867 (in the obituary); his wife,
Mary Louise Wille died in 1964 (she was from Lembeke, Belgium).
