Maurice Van Der Heyden

GRANGER - Maurice Van Der Heyden, 86, passed away in the early morning hours of Thursday, May 13, 2010 in Golden Living Center (Countryside Place) Mishawaka. Maurice was born on July 8, 1923 in Mishawaka to Prosper and Zulma (Soens) Van Der Heyden. On July 31, 1943 in Spokane, WA, he married the former Ernestine Marsh who preceded him on April 5, 1975. He was also preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Raymond Van Der Heyden; and a daughter, Rosalie Van Der Heyden of Mechelen, Belgium on October, 25, 2009. Surviving are two grandsons, David and Steven Naeyaert; three great grandchildren; and a sister, Elsie (Joseph) Catanzarite of Granger. Maurice was a life long area resident. He was a Lift Truck Operator for Bendix for 30 years before retiring in 1980. He was a Veteran of the United States Army, serving his country during WWII. Maurice was a member of VFW, BK Club and Eagles. He was a member of St. Bavo Catholic Church and was an active bowler in several bowling leagues and was also a member of the Mishawaka Alumni. Visitation will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. on Monday, May 17 in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Tuesday, May 18 in the funeral home, with Rev. Barry England officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka with full military rites by the VFW Post 360/American Legion 161 burial team.
