SOUTH BEND - Edna May Van De Putte, 87, of North Lee Blvd., de la Paix, South Bend, Ind., passed away after a brief illness at 6:20 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 30, in Miller's Merry Manor, Wakarusa, Ind. Edna was born on July 10, 1910, in Walkerton, Ind., to John B. and Ella Oma (Ogg) Carden, both of whom preceded her in death.
On Nov. 11, 1933, in St. Bavo Church, Mishawaka, Ind., she married Alfred L. Van De Putte, who passed away on Sept. 11, 1993. She was also preceded in death by four sisters, Jessie Cross, Ruby Miller, Vennie Brantley and Josephine Frederick; and by a brother, Elmer Carden. Edna is survived by two daughters, Marlene Davis of South Bend and Judith (Cyril) Cole of Granger, Ind.; two sons, Gerald (Patricia) Van De Putte of Mishawaka and Gregory (Judith) Van De Putte of Sachse, Texas; 11 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren; and by three sisters, Bessie Lee (Joseph) Barrett of Mishawaka, Vada Anderson of Chicago, Ill., and Gertrude (Russell) Kreider of Elkhart, Ind. Edna retired from Gerber Manufacturing in Mishawaka in 1974. She was a member of St. Bavo Catholic Church in Mishawaka.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday in the Thallemer-Goethals Funeral Home, Mishawaka, where a wake service will be held at 6 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday in St. Bavo Church, with Fr. James Shafer officiating. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, Ind. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Bavo Church Building Fund.
