James D. Vance, Sr.

James D. Vance, Sr., 73 years old,
residing on Oakland Street, South Bend, passed away on Friday,
July 23, 1999, at 7:30 a.m. in the Fountainview Place
Rehabilitation Center in Mishawaka of natural causes. Mr. Vance
was born on June 28, 1926, in Rome City, Ind., to the late
Maynard and Effie Jane (Campbell) Vance. He had resided in
the South Bend area since 1951, coming from Kendallville, Ind.
On April 19, 1947, in Roanke, Ind., he
married Dona Belle Cooley, who survives. Also surviving
are three sons, James D. (Luann) Vance, Jr., of Mishawaka, Robert
D. (Pam) Vance of Alpharetta, Ga., and Barry D. (Susan) Vance of
Macon, Ga.; three grandchildren, Bradley, Jeffery and Sierra; and
two sisters, Mary Jane (Dale) Rollins of Fort Wayne and
Dolly Martin of South Bend. Mr. Vance was a veteran of
World War II. He was a staff sergeant while serving in Europe. He
was also employed at the Bendix Corporation for 35 years,
retiring in May of 1983.
Funeral services for Mr. Vance will be held
at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 26, 1999, in the Palmer Funeral
Home, 2528 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend. Rev. Ed Erskin, pastor
of Northway Church of Christ, will officiate. Burial and
graveside services will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens,
Osceola. Friends may call from 2-6 p.m. today, July 25, in the
Palmer Funeral Home, South Bend.
