Irene Valentiny, 68, of Locust Road,
South Bend, Ind., died at 2:50 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, in her home.
Irene was co-owner and operator and tailor with her husband
Attila for many years. Their business, "University
Tailors," was located in the Outpost Center on Grape Road
and recently moved to Terrace Lane and State Road 23. On May 6,
1934, in Repcevis, Hungary, she was born to the late Joseph and
Maria (Wagner) Kluk, and had lived in the area since 1957,
coming from Hungary. Irene was also preceded in death by four
brothers and a sister.
On April 10, 1955, in Hungary, she married
Attila A. Valentiny. She is survived by her husband of 47 years;
two sons, Attila Nick (Kimberly) Valentiny of North Liberty,
Ind., and Robert Frank (Mindy) Valentiny of Walkerton, Ind.;
three grandsons, Attila Joseph, Christopher Robert and Joseph
Valentiny; and two granddaughters, Andrea Martin and Kayla
Valentiny; three great-grandchildren, Ivy Valentiny, and Isabella
and Kelsey Martin; Attila's brother, Victor (Julia) Valentiny of
Portage, Ind.; and by a niece, Gyongyi (Emory) Vicen of
South Bend.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday,
Oct. 31, in St. Mary's of the Assumption Catholic Church. Rev.
Paul McCarthy will officiate. Burial will follow at Southlawn
Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with a
Rosary at 7 p.m. in the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel,
3718 South Michigan Street, South Bend.
Irene was a longtime member of St. Mary's
Church. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. Family
meant everything to her and, keeping with tradition, continued to
teach Hungarian to her sons and their children. Memorial
contributions may be made to St. Mary's of the Assumption
Catholic Church or to Hospice of St. Joseph County.
