January 23, 1922 – November 17, 2004

Lillian Florence Underly, 82, of W. Washington Street, South Bend, died at 2:50pm Wednesday, November 17, 2004, in Saint Joseph Care Center West following a short illness.

Mrs. Underly was born January 23, 1922, in Buchanan MI to the late Conrad T. and Marie K. (Walter) Heimbuch and was a lifetime Michiana area resident.  She is survived by three daughters, Susan (Wayne Vanscoyk) Davis and Rebecca A. (Harry) Dodd, both of Mishawaka IN and Sandra K. (Craig) Stackman of South Bend; one son, Thomas L. (Connie) Underly of South Bend; nine grandchildren, Kacene (Gregory) Trobridge, Matthew (Molly Sheyka) Underly, Carrie (Mark) Moore, Michael Stackman, Jennifer Stackman, Kimberly Stackman, Melissa (Bryan) Hysell, Christopher Piechochi and Patrick Dodd; eight great grandchildren; and one brother, Arnold R. Heimbuch of Buchanan.  She was preceded in death by one grandson, Robert Davis, and four sisters and five brothers.

Mrs. Underly retired from Checkrite in1986 after five years, and had previously been employed by South Bend Lathe Company for 22 years and the Bendix Corporation for 8½ years.  She was a former member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of South Bend.

Funeral services will be held at 11am Saturday, November 20 in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home, 521 N. William St, with Mr. Steve Nani of Center for Hospice and Palliative Care officiating.  Burial will follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, South Bend.  Friends may call from 10 to 11am Saturday in the funeral home.  Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
